CA Foundation is the entry-level exam for Chartered Accountancy, conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). It replaced the earlier Common Proficiency Test (CPT) and serves as the first step towards becoming a Chartered Accountant.

Students who have passed 10+2 examination or its equivalent from a recognized board or institution can register for CA Foundation.

There is no restriction on the number of attempts for CA Foundation. A student can appear for the exam as many times as needed until they pass, provided they fulfill other eligibility criteria. Is there negative marking in CA Foundation exams? Yes, there is negative marking for incorrect answers in CA Foundation exams. For every incorrect answer, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.

To pass CA Foundation, a candidate must secure a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers in a single attempt.

CA Foundation registration is valid for three years. If a candidate does not appear for the exam within this period, registration will expire, and re-registration will be required.
